On 23rd November at the Asia Risk Congress 2022, our Senior Investment Analyst, Urvi Guglani chaired the Climate Summit.
With COP 27 at the top of everyone’s mind, the subject of ESG rings out loud for majority in Singapore. At Silverdale, we are acutely conscious of the importance of ESG in our day-to-day fund management decisions. We recognize it is our responsibility as fiduciaries to ensure we’re making the most responsible decisions on behalf of our investors.
In her keynote speech, Urvi Guglani discussed the breakthroughs and remarkable agreements from COP 27, including the developing country fund. At the same time, she also emphasized the failures of the summit such as the inability to get to a consensus regarding the slashing of greenhouse gas emissions to keep the world to its 1.5C temperature goal, which is nothing less than a death sentence for smaller island states (like Singapore).
Urvi Guglani also moderated a panel on “Climate Risk & The Transition to Net-Zero: Where we are in Singapore” with Panelists Winnie Tan (SVP, Great Eastern), Prashant Joshi (Director, BNP Paribas), and Philip Woo (CRO, Tokio Marine Life Insurance). The panel had an invigorating discussion on the regulatory challenges of the ESG climate, with a spotlight on the best strategies to refine Singapore’s regulatory frameworks.
All in all, it was an extremely well-received conference, with a very passionate audience and esteemed professionals from across Asia.
A huge thank you to Risk.net for the opportunity.
